ARE YOU UP FOR THE CHALLENGE?

 

We want you to be a part of our team, from Ispra, as a GIS expert.

 

WHAT WILL YOU DO IN YOUR DAY-TO-DAY?

• Design of specific data processing workflows solving needs of the Exposure Mapping Component of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) to produce population density grids.

• Preparation of population census data as input for the population modelling and multi-temporal estimate, including the harmonisation of spatial units, identification and solution of inconsistencies in the population census data.

• Refinement of the downscaling workflow to improve the generation of population grids beyond the census epoch

• Implementation of the processing workflows in distributed processing environments (parallel processing) in support of the population grid production tasks of the GHSL project.

• Monitoring the execution of the population grid production tasks, evaluate of the results, and solve problems when identified.

• Implementation of the DEGURBA methodology to the generated population grids and production of population statistics by DEGURBA

• Documentation and update of the above software components and derived data sets.

• Contribute to technical reports describing the experiments and revision of technical documents.

• Support the preparation of training material for use of the tools by the project partner.

• Interaction with the project leaders, project team members, customer, users, and the developers

 

WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM YOU?

  • At least 5 years of specific expertise in geospatial analysis of human settlements and Degree of Urbanisation
  • At least 5 years of specific expertise in population modelling and geospatial downscaling
  • In-depth knowledge of (geospatial) scientific programming languages including Matlab and Python.
  • Very good knowledge of GIS software and tools, in particular ArcGIS, QGIS and GDAL.
  • Good knowledge of geospatial data analysis
  • Good knowledge of population modelling approaches
  • Ability to apply high quality standards
  • Analysis and problem solving skills
  • Capability to write clear and structured technical documents
  • Ability to participate in technical meetings and good communication skills
  • Ability to understand, speak and write English (C1 level).
